Winters in this part of Illinois sit in a severe cold band, and that's as true in Cortland as anywhere else we cover. Cold doesn't crack a steel panel on its own, but it does make existing damage worse - a dent that was cosmetic in August can turn into a crack along the seam once temperatures drop and the steel contracts.
The pattern we actually see called in from Cortland: a panel dented from the outside - a backed-into car, a thrown shovel of ice, sometimes a basketball hoop pole - on a door that's otherwise running fine. Because the stock here tends to be newer steel sectional, the damage usually stays contained to one panel rather than spreading warp down the whole section, which is more common on the older wood or fiberglass doors you'd find elsewhere in the area.
What we don't see much of here: the full-door buckling from a spring failure that's common on older torsion setups. Cortland's newer housing means newer hardware, and newer hardware tends to fail at the panel before it fails at the spring.
